What if teams attempt to cheat? I won't list the ways here, but there are plenty of loopholes other than just maphacking.

Replays are what's it for.. Replays are required to deem as legal games, and thus replays will be check if suspicious on stuff like maphacking etc. If teams are found to be dishonest I believe the admins know what to do. ;)

Ok... It's mentioned that one of the things we can expect for this dota league is
Quote:
2. Live streaming of the Dota maches!
Watch and support your favourite team while they battle it out!
Imagine this scenario, this group of people can choose to come together and play and 5 of them can participate in the league while the others can be viewing the live streaming of the match. The others that are watching can inform their friends who are participating when they are going to get backstabbed or something. What proof will a replay do then? You cannot 100% say that the team is maphacking. And imagine an innocently team getting accused of maphack because of this...

Even without them coming together, there are voIP services on the internet... Friends can give each other a internet phone call and communicate with friends that are watching the live stream and thus provide and convey information to each other and this results in unfairness gaming.

I seriously doubt live streaming is possible. There is currently no technology that allows that with wc3 engine over the internet, unless you get a referee to stream the video out, which will easily lag out games with streaming over the internet.

I believe many teams uses VoIP technology like skype or ventrillo, no one can stop that, its pretty legal. However if as the above case, no live streamming means no ability to communicate to players ingame as to how they are able to tell those ingame the details of other team players.

Another thing to raise out is, how do we know the referee is fair? lol. It can be the admin friends playing against another team, and just coincidentally that the the admin is the referee/commentator of the game.

I think everything goes down to Intergraty. We will see who has it..

Live streaming is TOTALLY possible... If not how do you expect WCG games to be broadcasted live? You might want to check out this website http://www.waaaghtv.com/

My meaning is, the game is though internet connection, not lan area, so it would really cause heavy lag on the game, when they try to stream it out.

hmmm that maybe another problem eh? But if there's no live streaming, then it would just totally spoilt the fun of having a competition or league... Users should go "OMG That was an exciting match!! did you see how the sentinal owned the scourge?" instead of "Oh the match is over... so who won? Oh sentinal? Ok...."

Unless we can do it in a lan area, where by there are big tv screens to broadcast all matches going on, and ppl who are there can see all matches at a glance! Everything still have to be though through, I just have to wait till they give more details lor, then see what precautions or what idea they can come out with..

  • Instead of broadcasting it "live", I think we can have it delayed by 5 minutes. Should be possible, somehow.

This can prevent spectators from use VoIP softwares to communicate with the participants.

5 minutes is a reasonable delay, isn't it? Not really considered a delayed telecast. Perhaps a delayed simulcast.

  • Investigation will only be carried out when one of the team voice-out their concerns. Replays will then be reviewed and players will be interviewed regarding their behaviors.

Any suspicious cheating/exploiting/hacking will result in disqualification.

  • And if an Admin's friend or relative is involved in that particular game, that particular Admin will not be refereeing that game.

This is to prevent biaseness and prejudice.

Both Admin and the participant will have to declare before the game starts, failure to do so might result in disqualification or rematch.[/list]
