actually from my experience, singnet does TRANSPARENT PROXYING, whether or not u specify the proxy server. I think the same goes for starhub as well, which explains why many singaporeans can't use rapidshare and others for nuts.

On a more technical note:
For those running servers at home, also explains rogue connections picking every single piece of data off your server (its proxy mirroring i think)

so by right, whether or not u specify the proxy, the result SHOULD be similar, although the singnet proxying rules do seem weird at times.

i guess the ultimate solution will be to bypass the browser problems and directly authenticate thru mirc.
